Hunter / Jumper Riding Clinic with Juliana Zunde

October 19th, 20th & 21st 2007 at Ridgefield Arena

Juliana Zunde

Juliana Zunde was born and raised in “Baden–Baden”, Germany. Being the only one in her family with the love for horses, her mother says “she came out whinnying”. She began to ride at the age of 8, joined the local riding club and competed in dressage and show jumping, being club and regional champion in the Junior Divisions.

In 1981 Juliana came to the States and furthered her career in the horse industry. She founded and co-owned Foxmore Farms in Washington. There she coached the ponies, taught the juniors and adults as well as showed the Grand Prix horses. After a very successful time with the high powered large show farm she sold it and moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1989 where she managed Brookwood Stables, a lower key show barn with school horses and a very big lesson program. In 1991 she purchased Harbor Brook Stables and opened her own show barn once again.

Four years later, she finds herself married to a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and living in Poland. During her stay in Poland she was still able to train and ride, and coached their 3-Day team in show jumping.

After moving every 18 to 24 months with her husband’s job, it became increasingly harder to have clients, and she found herself buying and selling horses. “I love finding the right horse whether it’s a hunter or jumper. I have grown up with Warmbloods and know what makes them tick. They are very different than the American TB’s” she says. Over the years she has imported more than 100 horses from Europe. Many who moved on to be top winners in the Professional and Amateur Divisions and have qualified for Indoors and Devon in all the different Hunter Divisions.

With her husband out of the Army and living in Virginia, her goal is to find a farm to set up a scholarship program for talented young riders where they can be a working student for a year and learn everything about riding, showing and training Hunters and Jumpers. She will continue to teach clinics and coach students of all levels, and is in the process of obtaining her judging license.
